I am a counselor at an extremely diverse, suburban, Los Angeles high school. The experiences I had with the CCODE philosophy and the training from the CCODE staff provided me a framework to negotiate the complexities of working with young people and their families from a vast range of backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. I’ve been able to use what I learned about myself and the experiences of others to better advocate for all students as they navigate their journey to adulthood particularly to address issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin.

Following a racial incident at the local High School, the Racial Justice Committee has been researching programs in an effort to determine which programs might best address the institutional racism that allowed/encouraged the incident to take place. We invited the CCODE staff to lead our monthly Racism Awareness Workshop, in order to experience the program firsthand. Within a couple of hours, we could see their depth of knowledge and expertise. Their training also was not only educational, but enjoyable. They have a marvelous staff of dedicated professionals.
I have been involved in diversity training for over twenty years and was not expecting to learn anything new. Much to my surprise I was pleased that I, my board members, and members of my congregation were able to stand up and applaud for how much CCODE gave to us and how much we learned.
